Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association Awards Ceremony 2019
Six $2,000.00 scholarships were awarded to well-deserving students. Below is a brief bio and a photo of the student recipient with the scholarship sponsor.
Doctoral Scholarships
Louisiana Land Bank, ACA funded a Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association scholarship for a Ph.D. student majoring in agriculture. The recipient was Ms. Megan Mulcahy. Ms. Mulcahy is from Pretoria, South Africa where she grew up on a sugarcane farm. She is currently working on her degree in the Department of Entomology at LSU in Baton Rouge and has a 3.9 GPA.
The recipient of a Koch Agronomic Services funded Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association scholarship for a Ph.D. student was Mr. Jose Mite Caceres. Jose is from Ecuador, a country whose main economic activity is agriculture exportation.
Mr. Mite earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in agronomy and economics from the Zamorano Pan American Agricultural University and a Master’s of Sciences degree from LSU in Weed Sciences and Agricultural Economics. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences.
Masters Scholarship
Mr. Ateet Maharjan was the recipient of a Master’s Degree Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association scholarship funded by Mr. Ray and Mrs. Dorothy Young. Mr. Maharjan graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Agriculture in Nepal. At the present time, Mr. Maharjan is a graduate research assistant at LSU and is working on a Master’s Degree in plant pathology with a minor in experimental statistics. His GPA is 3.9.
The recipient of an agricultural scholarship sponsored by Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association, funded by Pest Management Enterprises (Dr. Grady and Mrs. Barbara Coburn), was Ms. Anna Coker who is pursuing a Master’s of Sciences Degree in the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences. She currently has a GPA of 3.4.
Undergrad Scholarships
The recipient of an undergraduate scholarship in agriculture sponsored by the Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association and funded by Belchim Crop Protection USA was Mr. Bryan Ashley. Mr. Ashley graduated from Tallulah Academy Delta Christian School and is currently attending the University of Louisiana Monroe where he is majoring in Agricultural Business. He has a 3.2 GPA.
The recipient of an undergraduate agricultural scholarship sponsored by Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association and funded by UPL, Valent USA & Arysta LifeScience was Mr. James Noah Harper. While in high school, Noah was a dual enrollment student at Delta Community College in 2016-17; Louisiana Tech in 2016-17; and the University of Monroe in 2015-17. Currently, he is a sophomore at Louisiana State University majoring in Plant and Soil Systems and has a GPA of 3.2.
